From the Word: Bearing good fruit (from Matthew 7:7-20)
”So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.” (Matthew 7:17-18 NASB)
Lord, this implies that it is the nature of things that makes the difference. Not how ‘hard’ I try, or technique, or intelligence, but whether or not in my core I am good or bad. And You know what I am, Lord. I can only trust You that You have given me everything I need pertaining to life and godliness, so I can trust You with the outcome. My part is to be faithful to the things that I know are true and that You want me to be, to do, to focus on.
O that I may simply seek You first (6:33) and follow You (4:19) and trust the results to You. If good things come from my life, it is because You have transformed me from within and changed my nature from sinful to godly. It is a work of Your hand, not of self effort or determination on my part. O that I may strive to abide in You (John 15), to reflect Your nature, to live out the miracle of forgiveness and redemption in my life, today and every day! What will that look like? It will look like…You, Lord. May I imitate You, as I seek to follow You and learn from You (Matt 11:28). Amen.
Please pray with us:
The annual Navigators b2g (20somethings) national gathering is being held in Chicago later this month (check out the website). Please pray with us that even now as some are wavering on whether or not to go, for the Holy Spirit to guide those who need to be there to make the hard choices in order to make it happen. Let’s also pray for the presentations as well as the informal times of mixing with others from around the country to help them see the opportunities that they have to make an eternal difference in the lives of others “right where they are”. Thanks.
