From the Word: Labor until evening (from Psalm 104)
”Man goes forth to his work and to his labor until evening.” (Psalm 104:23 NASB)
You also, from the labor of man, cause vegetation to grow so that we may have wine which makes our heart glad and food which sustains our heart. The heart - what part shall my heart play in what You want me to do? You recompense a man according to his work (Psalm 62:12). So I must apply myself with diligence, not forgetting that prayer is a key element of my “work”. It is so easy for me to get going on little projects - and big projects - and neglect to also make time for a dedicated period of prayer from my heart. Gotta do both.
How can I trust You, Lord, to help me do what I should do? My life is so full of demands; I must sort out the essential ones and let go of those which do not make a difference in the long run. Ahh, but that takes wisdom to know my priorities, and to trust You to take care of some things that seem to keep hanging around. Why do some projects never go away, never quite get finished, always need one more phone call, errand, or email? Setting aside time to pray, and saying “later” to those things, takes faith and a willingness to trust You to cover those things I would otherwise get distracted with and fritter away my day. I love You, Lord. May I live for You in complete submissive obedience with determination and faith. Amen.
Please pray with us:
This Thursday, May 7th, is designated as our national day of prayer. May I encourage you in the spirit of I Timothy 2:1-2 to pray for our country. For ideas, you can go to the National Day of Prayer website (click here). You will find suggestions in the areas of Government, Military, Media, Business, Education, Church and Family. ( Note: the website is glitzy and has lots of unnecessary extras, but there are some good prayer ideas there - don’t let the marketing distract you!)
Thanks!
John
