From the Word: Am I ‘moved’? (from II Peter 1:12 - 21)
”For no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” (II Peter 1:21 NASB)
Lord, thank You for Your Holy Spirit! By Him I am sealed, with Him I am filled, I am His dwelling, He leads, guides, empowers, teaches, comforts. In Him I walk - I seek to walk in obedience - I was going to say humble obedience, but what about confident obedience? Can I be humble and confident at the same time? I must be humble; the opposite, pride, is not an acceptable option. But can I also be confident in my humility? And also, can I be humble in my confidence? I think so - with an accurate understanding of what being humble really is, then I can also be confident, not in myself, but in You, Lord Jesus. And along with Paul, my confidence in me should be in my weaknesses, so that Your strength might be made known.
O Lord, for my daily affairs, may Your Holy Spirit do His work in me, that I may be moved by Him according to Your plans and purposes, and not live out today as ‘an act of human will’. I submit my will to You, that You might guide and direct me today, Lord. Thank You for this insight, and yet I also realize that this also has some unanswered questions - is ‘moved’ that same as Your normal, daily guidance in my life? Or is this a special superintending of Your Spirit on the prophets whose words have been preserved as Holy Writ, elevated above all else? I could do more research on this to answer this question. May I do that, Lord. Amen.
Please pray with us:
The Navigator metro ministries for New York, Boston, and Philadelphia are planning a gathering in October for a time of learning and mutual encouragement. I am the Philly rep for the planning of the event. Would you pray with us as we trust God to guide us in determining the specifics of how we will spend our time together? Also, you might be interested to know that I had a conference call scheduled this morning with the NYC and Boston metro directors. I blanked - I missed the call! I was engrossed in my Holy Spirit Bible study, looking at Acts 8, and was puzzling over what gives with the laying on of hands and Philip being snatched away so the eunuch no longer saw him.
Here is the email I got soon after I realized I missed the call…
Hey John,We missed you this morning. I assume you got caught up with something unexpectedly. Steve and I had a “mini-conference call.”The first order of business was to designate a “point man” for the Cluster. You’d be amazed to learn that the vote was unanimous - 2 yeas, 0 nays that John Nellis serve in this role!!
