From the Word: “Enduring unjust treatment”(from I Peter 2:11-25)
”Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are unreasonable. For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly. For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God.” (I Peter 2:18-20 NASB)
O Lord, help me to grasp the significance of this for my life. And not just for me, can I help my son with this? Lord, may You be honored by the way I respond in every situation, whether treatment is justified or not. This will not happen if my focus is on me and my interests. This can only happen if my eyes are fixed on You, Lord Jesus, and my concerns are what concerns You.
And how will I take on Your concerns? How can I replace my own self-interest with a commitment to Your purposes? I am “called for this purpose” (v21). May Your Holy Spirit keep in the forefront of my thinking that which brings honor to You and accomplishes in us - my life and the lives of others - what You have purposed to do. To submit myself for Your sake (v13) to whatever You want me to commit to. Amen.
Please pray with us:
As a staff team, for the next several months we are studying the Scriptures and discussing together the topics of justice, mercy, and shalom - peace, but more than that. (I recently returned from a series of meetings in Dallas with directors of Nav metro ministries from other cities around the country, at which we spent a significant amount of our time together discussing the same topics.) Please pray that our personal time to research these qualities of God would be rich in insight and understanding, and that what God reveals to us in our discussions will give us a clearer grasp of who He is and how we can serve Him more effectively by seeking justice, mercy, and shalom in our ministries.
Thanks.
