From the Word: “Lusts of ignorance”(from I Peter 1:13-25)
”As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves in all your behavior;” (I Peter 1:14,15 NASB)
Lord, this is an interesting concept: our lusts will cause us to do things that come ‘naturally’, but it is due to ignorance that we behave as we do. Those who have been enlightened are no longer ignorant, and we can then behave as obedient children, becoming holy in all our behavior, like You who called us! I have not been redeemed with silver and gold, perishable items (as stable as they may be from a scientific point of view), but I have been redeemed with Your blood!
Your precious blood. O Lord, behavior that conforms to lust is based on ignorance. But those who have heard and rejected, and are still living out their lusts, it is no longer in ignorance. For those who have responded to your call who were previously ignorant and then embraced the truth and knowledge of Your great work of redemption, our behavior is based on our knowledge of You and what You have done for us and are still doing for us every day. As I consider who You are and what You do it is a great incentive to be holy. O Lord, give me a heart of obedience, a desire to strive for holiness in all that I do, in order to please You and to reflect Your great goodness in the way I live my life. Amen.
Please pray with us:
The small city we live in has been plagued by a rash of arson fires over the past year. So far this month there have been 14 fires, the most recent one destroying or damaging 15 homes. Check out http://www.dailylocal.com/articles/2009/01/25/news/doc497c348a9cc0a373453294.txt . One of the families affected worships with us at our local church - their house wasn’t damaged but they have no electricity. This most recent fire has pulled people together - some out of anger and fear, and some out of a desire to help those who have been affected.
Please pray with us that God will use the events to bring people to Himself, both those who are now struggling to recover what is left and figure out what the next step is for them, as well as those who are in a position to step in and help. And pray also that the arsonist(s) will be caught soon.
Thanks.
