From the Word:  “Coming to judge”(from Psalm 98) [part two: for part one see Dec 18 entry]
”He is coming to judge the earth; He will judge the world with righteousness and the peoples with equity.” (Psalm 98:9 NASB)

Same idea stands out here as in Ps 96.  A few minor differences in these two passages, but the main thought is the same.  And the psalmists response in both passages is that creation will rejoice, sing , be glad that You are coming as judge.  For the righteous (and we are only righteous because of what You have done for us!) Your judgment is a time to rejoice, for that is when things will fall into place as they should.  Evil will not triumph, and good will prevail.  Those who have suffered will be comforted, restored and healed, and those who have oppressed will be punished.

There is a satisfying sense of justice in this, Lord.  may You be honored by my response to Your judging us with righteousness and with equity - not equally, nor with equality, but according to each individual situation.  I can only rejoice in this because I have cast myself before You for Your mercy, to appeal to Your mercy and forgiveness.  I praise You, Lord for Your grace and faithfulness in dealing with me so patiently.  May I not presume upon Your good graces, but seek to be all that I can be for the sake of Your intentions and the glory of Your name and for the advancement of Your Kingdom.  Amen.

Please pray with us:
As I anticipate later this month the inauguration of our new president and changes at all levels of our government, I think of Paul’s urging in I Timothy 2:1-2, “First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.”  Please take a moment right now, and join me in prayer for our new president and all the authorities over us.  Ask God with me to guide and direct the decisions made by our rulers.  We can take heart in the reminder that God the Lord is our Judge, and that He judges with righteousness and equity!

Thanks.
