From the Word: “Coming to judge”(from Psalm 96) [part one: part two next week]
”…for He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in His faithfulness.” (Psalm 96:9 NASB)
And for this we are to rejoice, and sing, to worship You.
The heavens are to be glad.
The earth is to rejoice.
The sea is to roar!
The field is to exult.
The forest is to sing for joy.
What can I learn from creation as it responds to Your glory (v3) and Your greatness (v4)? You made it all (v5). O may I absorb and grasp Your spendor and majesty, Your strength and Your beauty.
Thank You for these thoughts today, Lord. Amen.
Please pray with us:
The city of Philadelphia is actually made up of several hundred small neighborhood communities. Ministry in a typical rough city neighborhood requires a long term presence and focus. Brent Anderson, one of our Navigator missionaries, lives in a South Philly neighborhood near the stadium complex where the World Series Champions Phillies play their home games :-). With his wife Diane, they partner with several ministries in the city focused on the needs of the local neighborhoods.
As they have actively sought to be salt and light in their community and surrounding neighborhoods, God has been working in the lives of the people around them. Along with a local pastor, Brent has befriended two young men who are gang members but open to the gospel - one prayed to receive Christ several years ago. They were both wounded in gang related violence last year, and were also incarcerated for their involvement. They will be released in the next two months. One of them recently voiced the desire that “God would change my whole life around…”.
Please pray Romans 12:19 with Brent and Diane for these two young men, that when they are released, they would rely on God for the strength to resist the temptation to retaliate, and allow God to exercise justice on their behalf. (Romans 12:19 - “Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.” NASB). Pray that their reliance on God would be a testimony to those around them. Thanks.
